Mother’s Day is everywhere right now—in every store window and every social media feed. But for those of us navigating the day without a mother, or with the ghost of a relationship that never quite fit the mold, the “celebration” can feel more like a weight. This Sunday, self-care isn’t about luxury; it’s about survival and reclaiming the woman you were before the world told you who to be.
The Hard Truth About Carving Out Time
Let’s be real: carving out time for yourself is freaking hard. Between the mental load of daily life and the endless “to-do” lists, finding even twenty minutes to breathe can feel like an Olympic sport.
But there is a specific kind of exhaustion that a bath bomb can’t fix. It’s the exhaustion that comes from burying the version of yourself you were in your twenties—the one who was fueled by raw ambition and big, “impossible” dreams.
Even inside the chaos don’t forget to be the mother you needed someone to be to you for yourself. I’m the acting matriarch of my family and honestly no one prepares you for how lonely that can be. I miss having that connection of female family members inside my own blood family. But, that’s life and that is the way mine has been shaped. From a spiritual perspective to me- it means I need to start the female line over into something better. But, personally, mentally, its hard. So, this is how I’m helping myself this year.
Choosing Your Ambitious Self
Think back to that version of yourself. She wanted to write. She wanted to open a store, a restaurant, or a creative space. She had a fire in her belly that wasn’t yet dampened by the weight of “shoulds.”
Self-care is about reclamation. It’s about choosing that ambitious, dreaming version of yourself again. It’s deciding that your goals—whether they involve a keyboard, a business plan, or a canvas—are worth the effort of carving out space, even when the world demands every ounce of your energy.
The Shadows of Motherhood
Today, the pressure to celebrate can feel particularly heavy. While it’s a beautiful day for many, being motherless on Mother’s Day carries a unique silence. Whether that absence is through loss or a fractured relationship, it’s a heavy cloak to wear.
In my serial fiction, we’ve been exploring these exact shadows. Ann’s relationship with her mother is anything but a Hallmark card—it’s messy, painful, and deeply transformative. In the coming weeks, we’re going to dive even deeper into those origins and how they shaped the woman Ann is today. Consider it a ✨hint✨ of the tension to come.
Your Psychic, Smutty Romance Escape
If you’re looking for a community that embraces both the light and the dark—the ambition and the struggle—I’d love for you to join our newsletter. Think of it as your ultimate psychic, smutty romance escape. It’s the one place where we dive deep into the supernatural and the carnal, leaving the “real world” behind for a while.
Next week is a big one. I’m sharing a deeply personal story about the time I actually predicted my own mother’s death. Plus, I’ll be dropping a “love letter” written between two of our most important characters, a sneak peek at next week’s chapters, and more.
Join the Spirit and Shadow Collective – Your Weekly Escape
Take a breath today. Choose the version of you that still wants to conquer the world—and the version that still wants to get lost in a story. She’s still in there, waiting for you to let her out.
✨ Happy Sunday.
